Why Used Cars Need To Have Good Tyres
By Christian Little • Feb 7th, 2010 • Category: UncategorizedThere are more people looking to buy used cars instead of new cars because of the global economic downturn. But one important thing to take a look at when buying any used car is the tyres. It is very important to check what state the tyres are in before you buy as it could impact on how safe the car is. Neglected tyres may indicate that the overall condition of the car has also been neglected.
Mismatched tyres are another thing that should be looked out for. Tyres on a car should really be from the same manufacturer and of similar specifications. Having mismatched tyres can affect the safety of a car and especially having mismatched tyres on the same axle. Another thing which could be affected along with safety is the performance of the car. Although most of us would not think that this could be an issue, it is reported that this is a nationwide problem with used cars.
A survey conducted on the state of tyres on used cars across the country found that sixty per cent had mismatched tyres. More shockingly was the fact that sometimes all four tyres were of different specs or brands. 38 percent of tyres on a single axle were different too and the survey also found that a lot of the tyres were budget tyres. The performance of these budget tyres were not as good as premium tyres according to a study and wet conditions made this statistic even worse.
Although it is understandable for people to choose budget tyres for their cars in the current economic climate, having all tyres the same can increase the performance and the safety levels of the car. Not even used cars bought from car dealers with certified used car programs were free from this problem. So it is important for used car buyers to check the tyres on the cars they are intending to buy.
Whenever you happening to be looking for used cars, it’s always best to carry out a proper research ahead of time. Researching allows you to find the very best used cars for the category you are looking for. Once you’ve finished, you could find youself driving away from the dealers in a used fso or even a used hyundai.
