The Basics Regarding Baby Bedding
By Christian Little • Mar 7th, 2010 • Category: ARGH!, UncategorizedExpecting a new little one in your family? What an exciting time it can be as you plan all the details as you prepare this amazing event. An essential part of any nursery is the crib, including the bedding you will use in your new child’s crib. Baby Bedding is not used just to be cute, but also serves as highly functional for the safety and comfort of your baby.
There are many pieces that go into the Baby Bedding you will use. Ensure all pieces are flame retardant for safety. You also want to make sure they are not so puffy that this becomes an issue of potential smothering and other safety factors. Items that are puffy can be used on walls and as draped decorative items as opposed to being placed in the crib. You get the effect without the safety issues. Whatever you choose your bedding, here are some basics to get you started.
Mattress Cover: Covering the crib mattress is essential to protecting the mattress from accidental wetness and other times when you need to change bedding and not wet the mattress and avoid stains. It makes the mattress last longer for possible future babies who may come along.
Crib Sheet: A fitted crib sheet will go on top of the cover to safeguard baby in comfort while they are sleeping. They come in all types of styles and colors. It is good to have at least three sheets to ensure you always have a clean sheet to change if needed on a short notice, such as in the middle of the night.
Bumper: A crib bumper fits around the inside of your baby crib to use as padding against the baby bumping into the rails or poking arms or legs through. A bumper fits around the inside with soft ties or Velcro typically.
Dust Ruffle: Purely a decorative item, the dust ruffle can complete the aesthetic look to the baby crib area. They come many times in crib sets to match the rest of your decor. It is a nice added touch to the complete look.
Blankets: A simple thermal blanket is sufficient for a newborn to be swaddled in while they sleep. Another blanket can be added if it is cold, but you do not want to overheat your newborn. Some sets come with heavier blankets or crib-sized comforters. They are pretty, but often not needed and can drape over the side of the crib or hung on the wall for a decoration.
Additional items can be purchased if you wish to for baby bedding. One is a type of wedge that many new parents use for propping baby up on their side to sleep. These are soft and plush three dimension wedges that are sturdy enough to support the baby so they do not sleep on their back or stomach. You can also add a crib music system to attach to the crib for soft music while baby is falling asleep as well.
All of these together will make a perfect area for your new little one so they relax and rest in comfort. Always remember safety, as well as cuteness, in your decision making. I don“t think it should be down to you to feed the guests, maybe ask everyone to bring a small plate of something? Or even have a food themed shower (such as Chinese dumplings, fondu etc) and ask everyone to bring an ingredient?..
