Samsung ML 6050 Printer Toner: It Can Be Hard Looking For Cheap Prices With Laser Printers

By Christian Little • Mar 18th, 2010 • Category: ARGH!

The Samsung ML 6050 printer is marketed towards the budget sector. This device is a perfect replacement for the inkjet. This offering from Samsung has been dominating the market since it was first released. Sold at around $100, this is considered as an entry-level device, although the ML 6050 laser toner makes it seem like a “top gun”.

The machine can churn out 12 pages in a minute. This makes it one of the fastest sub $100 laser printers ever introduced. It also has a 550 sheet paper tray, which makes frequent loading of paper a thing of the past. These are just two of the features that make this device great.

It uses a 67 MHz CPU and 4 MB RAM. However, you can always expand the memory up to 68 MB. You may have a hard time looking for compatible RAM since it still uses the old 72-pin EDO SIMM. Most laser printers use the industry standard 100-pin SD RAM. Local availability might be a problem, so we advise you to check online.

This Samsung model was able to deliver good, acceptable printing quality. The texts were sharp and the graphics were fine and subtle. However, we did encounter some problems when using the 1,200 dpi setting under the Samsung Resolution Enhancement Technology. We had to reduce the resolution to 600 dpi so that the printer would print. As with most laser printers, it is not suited for detailed printing.

The package includes a Samsung ML 6050 laser toner that can print 3,000 pages. You can also buy a new one for about $100, which makes each page cost around 3.3 cents. This is a little expensive for a laser printer. If you want to save a lot more money, you can always use the Toner Save feature. This is a great feature if you are printing text documents since it only uses half the amount of toner. A single page can cost 1.65 cents with Toner Save, which is a lot lower than any personal laser printer. Bear in mind this is not recommended for graphic printing since it cause some contrast problems.

You can connect the device using the parallel or USB port. This is great for people who do not have an available USB slot. It does have any Ethernet port, which makes networking impossible without the use of a computer as its server. Its brother, the ML 6060, does offer a built-in Ethernet port for a couple of dollars more.

Power consumption is about the same with other laser printers. It uses around 300 watts when in printing. When it is on standby, it consumes 30 watts. The machine also complies with the EPA Energy Star Standard.

A one-year standard warranty is included with the product. In addition, you can contact their 24/7 technical support team through their telephone number. It is also highly recommended that you download the latest drivers from Samsung’s website.

In summary, the print quality and high capacity paper tray are the two main selling points of the Samsung ML 6050 printer. If you print a lot of text documents, printing costs will be a great benefit, thanks to the Toner Save feature. This is a great device for basic text and graphic printing, but it is an inadequate photo printer.

For the types of printing for which this device is geared, the Samsung ML 6050 toners performs admirably. Anyone familiar with Samsung toner won’t find this surprising, however, locating replacement toner online at great prices will be a pleasant find.
